COL Paris Davis is inducted into the Ranger Hall of Fame for his service and embodiment of the Ranger Creed throughout his military career.
On 19 June 1965, then Captain Davis, distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action while serving as a U.S Army Special Forces Advisor near Bong Son, Republic of Vietnam. While returning from a successful raid on a Viet Cong position, the 883rd Regional Forces Company, the company advised by Captain Davis, was ambushed and sustained several casualties. Captain Davis, constantly exposing himself to hostile small arms fire, rallied the disorganized unit and directed artillery and small arms fire which enabled other elements to reach his position. Although wounded in the leg, he aided in the evacuation of other wounded men of his unit. Following arrival of air support, Captain Davis, with complete disregard for his own personal safety, directed artillery fire within 30 meters of his own position enabling him to reach his seriously wounded Team Sergeant. While carrying the Sergeant up a hill, Captain Davis was again wounded. Despite his two painful wounds, he remained with the troops while they repelled several Viet Cong assaults of his position. When a relief force arrived, Captain Davis refused medical evacuation until all other wounded had been evacuated.
For his heroic actions, Colonel Davis was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military decoration, on March 3, 2023, by President Joseph R. Biden.
